The Sabbath Companion
How exactly can we dedicate the Sabbath day to Abba? Do you find yourself struggling to stay on track? Have you realized that you are meeting less with others or with your family because you have already decided to do something else that isn't Sabbath related? Do you get frustrated and feel like you can't think of anything else to do besides take a nap? Or are your Sabbaths feeling just too busy?
When we think of resting on the Sabbath, sometimes we think it's just about quitting work. Sometimes we tend to use Sabbath simply as a day off to do the things we don't get to do on a work day. This isn't truly honoring the day. Finding pleasure in things such as fun activities or going to events isn't wrong, but if that pleasure is taking us away from time with Abba, fellowship, and renewing our minds with His word on His day, then we have forgotten what the Sabbath is about. Teaching ourselves to delight in spending time with Him and putting aside these pleasures can take a lot of commitment and discipline. But the reward He offers to those who persevere in this is worth it!
Isaiah 58:13,14 If you turn back your foot from Shabbat, from doing your pleasure on My holy day, and call Shabbat a delight, the holy day of Adonai honorable, If you honor it, not going your own ways, not seeking your own pleasure, nor speaking your usual speech, then You will delight yourself in Adonai, and I will let you ride over the heights of the earth, I will feed you with the heritage of your father Jacob. For the mouth of Adonai has spoken.
A new article will be on the front page of the Sabbath Companion each month, but the guides will remain relatively the same. I love to encourage people to find ways to use their devices less, so the Sabbath Companion is here to give you a non-digital way to spend your time on the Sabbath and record the things that are discussed in the family. Whether you live alone or have a family, you can use this guide to prompt you through your day.

I created the Sabbath Companion because over the years I have struggled to honor the Sabbath. It isn't easy in this world where we are constantly being pulled away by this or that distraction. I found that disciplining myself with reading and writing has trained my brain how to better focus and spend time, so I hope that the Sabbath Companion can help you in that discipline. If you are new to the Sabbath or if you have been keeping it for years, may this resource be a helpful way to refocus your Sabbaths on Him and your relationship!
Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.
